A holiday note: and a steady word as the year closes
Hello friend,
As the year begins to slow down and the calendar fills with holidays, gatherings, and a few quieter moments in between, we wanted to reach out personally and say how grateful we are that you’re here. December tends to hold both celebration and reflection at the same time, and we know many leaders are carrying a lot right now, at home, at work, and in service to missions that genuinely matter.
If you’ve found your way into this space recently, or if you’ve been reading along quietly for some time, here’s what we want you to know: The Confident Company exists because thoughtful leaders like you take this work seriously. Board service is real leadership. It shapes culture, decisions, and outcomes, and too often, it happens without recognition or reinforcement. We see the weight of it, and we’re glad you’re here.
As the year winds down, we want to offer one clear practice to close the year with intention. Before you fully step into the holidays, take a few minutes to name where you showed up with purpose this year. Not where everything worked, not where it was easy—but where you chose steadiness, curiosity, or care. Maybe you asked the question that slowed the room down. Maybe you helped bring a decision back to mission. Maybe you stayed engaged when it would have been simpler to disengage. Those moments are not small. They are the foundation of confident governance.
As you look toward the year ahead, we want to invite you into two resources we created precisely for leaders who want to serve well and lead smart—without guessing or second-guessing themselves. The Confident Board Member™ was written for people who want to think more clearly about how they show up in the boardroom and why their presence matters. If you’ve ever left a meeting wondering whether you’re contributing in the right ways, this book was written with you in mind.
And for those who don’t want to do that thinking alone, the Confident Collective offers an ongoing space for board members to learn, reflect, and grow alongside others who understand the responsibility of this role. Right now, you can join the Collective for $5 for your first month. Consider it a practical entry point as you prepare for the year ahead—no pressure, just an opportunity to see if this community supports the kind of leader you want to be.
However this season finds you, we hope it includes moments to pause, to take stock, and to recognize the leadership you already bring. Thank you for being here, and for the work you do in service of others and the missions that depend on steady, values-driven governance.
With appreciation,
Dawn & Craig
Serve well. Lead smart.™
